Family Fun

The next morning we woke way too early.  For some reason our hotel room decided to turn the air conditioner off at 3am and we were both hot and humid.  So what did we do??? Head down to the 7eleven for some snacks (this was becoming a habit!).  What did we crave?  Something cold like . . .ice cream!  And pretty much any other snack that we couldn't read but thought it would be neat to try.  We found ourselves doing this often.  Anytime we had to head into a convenience store, we tried something new and barely legible.  Our not-famous drink was an aloe drink that had actual chunks of aloe.  It was pure NAST!
Notice my humidity hair, classy don't ya think?
Some of these snacks were sacrificed to the pigeons (more later)

Anyway, the day was a great day for adventure.  I say adventure because we didn't really have plans and we were at the whim of anyone who would take us anywhere.  We got dressed for church (the LDS church had a Korean ward and a non-Korean ward) but because of Stake conference starting around 2pm, we decided we had better not go so we could spend more time with the family.

Jennifer Hong, our new member friend (courtesy of the internet and the branch president), took us to her home where we dined on deliciously prepared Golbi.  Her parents were so wonderful and Jennifer was such a sweetheart.  Her mom said we were her "American daughters".  After an amazing meal of meat, rice with some special beans and grains and kimchi we returned to our hotel room to be picked up by our cousin, Jin Young.  I think he skipped his church to take us around.  My aunt was probably faithfully at her Presbyterian church.

So after picking up his family, we went to EMart.  I must say, it was way more awesome than Walmart.  We then were treated to lunch by our Cousin, Jong myung at a North Korean style restaurant.  We ate the cold noodles called "Nangmyun".  They were different and something I am glad we tried, but let's just say I won't be craving those anytime soon.

No, those aren't worms. . .that's my lunch!

Next we went to pick up our Aunt Jeong Su and drove all over South Korea enjoying sights and some historical places and museums.  It was a wonderful day.  We went to Gyeongju and saw the Emelee bell and beautiful artifacts and watched the sunset at Anapji pond.  It was a peaceful and beautiful day.

As we drove back to Daegu, we enjoyed hearing my Aunt Jeong Su tell me stories of my Mother.  We learned so much.

We ate our last meal with our family at our Cousin's (Aunt In Su's son) house.  This is where we met another awesome cousin, Jong-hyun.  He was young and fun and knew English.  His amazing grandmother (our aunt) and beautiful mother spent much time and effort preparing an elaborate meal.  We had a wonderful feast.  We left full, tired, happy and sad.  It was our last dinner with our family.  One we may never be able to duplicate.  One I will cherish for the rest of my life.
