California Day 1--MS to TN to CA to Korea?
To be honest, we left Caledonia on Friday afternoon and drove to Huntsville where our good friend Wes had kindly let us stay at his place...and he wasn't even there. Now that's a friend. Thanks Wes! Staying in Huntsville allowed us to be able to get up at a reasonable hour so that we could arrive in Nashville around 10:00 am.
We rolled into Nashville right on time and met Jean and her new dog Cheeto. After getting the kids' stuff offloaded and a quick bite to eat it was off to the airport. At the terminal we said our goodbyes to the kids, wished Jean luck, hugged and kissed the kids a 2nd and 3rd time and then headed into the terminal to check our luggage and go through the dismal ordeal that is the TSA safety screening.
We each checked one bag. One bag contained just motorcycle gear--pants, jackets. One bag had all our clothes for the week. We packed pretty light and planned on doing laundry a couple times while we were out there.
For carry-ons, we each carried our helmets and one other bag. I had the bag with our 3 cameras, netbook, GPS and all charging cables. Angela carried the bag that contained our motorcycle boots and a few other small items that we could squeeze in there.
Anyway, after a short hop to St. Louis it was off to Los Angeles. The three and a half our flight seemed to take forever but we finally stepped off the airplane in California. By the time we had gotten our rental car and checked into the hotel it was nearly 7:30pm.
After freshening up a bit it was time to tackle the first real challenge of the trip...tracking down a Kogi Korean BBQ truck. We've heard a lot about how good the food was and couldn't wait to sample the goods. After checking the website and locating what we thought was the closest truck to our hotel, we hopped in the car and headed south. 45 minutes later we pulled up to the area the truck was supposed to be and it wasn't there!!! Undaunted, we located another truck and got back on the road. Another 30 minutes on the road and we were finally able to find a food truck. We ordered all kinds of tacos, some curry and because we had mentioned to the lady that took our order that we were from MS, she threw in a free tofu burrito (it was way better than it sounds).
So there we were, bellies full of delicious food, its 9:30 or so and we're 10 minutes from Hollywood. What else to do but go check out the sites?
Hollywood Blvd was busier than we expected it to be but we enjoyed walking around, taking pictures and soaking in the sights.
On a whim we decided to see the last Harry Potter movie at the Grauman's Chinese Theater. While the theater looked cool on the outside, I expected it to be just a normal movie theater on the inside. We were in awe as we walked in to a massive theater with beautiful chinese lanterns, huge pillars, and beautiful wood working in the ceiling.
By the time the movie was out, it was after 1 am and the only people out were freaky homeless dudes and drunks, so we high-tailed it back to the car and back to the hotel to try to grab a few zzzzz's.
Tomorrow---Malibu Barbie, dead-locked traffic in the middle of nowhere and In 'n Out Burgers.
